How to create a landing page to collect email sign-ups (using Mailchimp)

Collecting email sign-ups is one of the key business building activities you do in your day-to-day, small business lives. And so any way to help streamline and make this process more effective are always welcome.

Landing pages are a great way to do this, so that you can set up branded pages online where people can interact with you, without having to make changes to your website, and that is nicely integrated with your email service provider (just to clarify, you might see these referred to as landing pages, sales pages, sign-up pages, etc, they’re all essentially the same thing).

Why are landing pages useful?

Because even if you’re not overly creative, the thought of doing anything on your website makes you nervous, or you just want to get something done quickly, you can still easily create a page that does the job, is consistent with your brand, and can be linked up from anywhere that people might find you online.

The other really useful thing about landing pages , is that they are completely focussed on one thing.

They don’t have sidebars, or the full header and footer you have on your website, and even though they should be consistent with your brand, generally people will know they are not on your website.

This is good for you because it keeps visitors to your page focussed solely on what they came to the page to do.

And typically this is to:

  • sign-up to your email newsletter; or
  • buy something.

So how do you create a landing page?

There’s quite a few good options around for creating and maintaining landing pages. But if you’re just getting started with building your brand and your business you might not want to add another expense to your list just now. And even though the more top end landing page builders are highly featured, they can end up costing you hundreds of dollars a year just to have access to them.

That’s why I was so delighted when Mailchimp introduced landing pages earlier this year! And, they are available with the Forever Free accounts as well! Which is awesome!!

This means that you can now easily set-up a sign-up or sales page directly from your Mailchimp account, without any extra expense! And that’s a huge win for any small business!

Setting up a landing page is nice and easy, and I’ve put together a quick video that walks you through the process, so that you could have your own landing page set up today!!

(BTW: you can check out one of my simple landing pages, created in Mailchimp, just so you know what we’re talking about before you get started.)

So what do you think? Have you used the new landing page feature in Mailchimp yet? How’d it go? Let me know in the comments below. And if you haven’t, what do you think? Does this look do-able?
